2016 was outstanding… but 2017 will be even better!
It only seems like yesterday that I stepped into my role as Veeam President and COO, but it’s actually been more than eight months — and what an amazing eight months they’ve been! When I took this role, I knew I was joining a special company, one with a rich heritage of innovation and success, a loyal customer base, passionate employees and a terrific reputation in the industry. Veeam’s vision for a highly virtualized, cloud-first era, where 24.7.365 access to information from anywhere, at any time — or Availability, as we call it — is something users can expect and not dream about hooked me.
However, what I heard about Veeam prior to joining the team was a massive understatement, ... Read more
Three scenarios for leveraging hybrid cloud solutions to improve Availability
In “The NIST Definition of Cloud Computing,” Peter Mell and Timothy Grace point out that there are four types of clouds: Private, public, community, and a hybrid mix of at least two of these. If you are thinking “What is a community cloud?” then I encourage you to go back and read the NIST paper. It’s really short and succinct, and your personal cloud vocabulary will be better for it. The vast majority of business will end up using their own private clouds and interfacing with various public cloud offerings from their partners. Availability seems to fit just perfectly as a hybrid cloud opportunity.

Cloud is a viable option for many use cases, including but not limited to storage, critical workload management, disaster recovery and much more. And as we have covered in our previous concerns related to this series, it can also be made secure, reasonably priced, and migration can be simplified. We found one of the major cloud concerns in last year’s end user survey to be customization. Let’s dive into where customization and the cloud meet.

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) — the biggest, annual consumer technology exhibition in the world — wrapped up in Las Vegas a couple weeks ago.
CES is a massive, consumer-technology festival, where companies highlight their prototypes and products for the world's media and approximately 100,000 consumers over several days. And, while catching up on the news from CES, I started realizing that instead of wearable technologies and display technologies dominating the conversation, CES 2017 focused heavily on connected devices and the Internet of Things (IoT).
This year saw a significant focus on smart-home technology, with voice-controlled devices featured heavily in the plans for major appliance retailers including Samsung, LG and Whirlpool in partnership with ... Read more
How to recover Group Policy Objects
We introduced Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Active Directory — a very helpful utility when it comes to AD objects recovery — as a part of Veeam Backup & Replication v8. Its initial functionality was intended to solve the most frequent cases administrators have with Active Directory: Granular objects and containers recovery (ok, password recovery also was included, as well as AD data export in LDIFDE format). All of that made a lot of people happy, but, as always, they wanted more. The community gave us great feedback, asking for additional features for less frequent cases or specific scenarios.

Predictions: 2017 will be the year of the data center
Looking back, it’s clear that 2016 highlighted the importance of Availability. As we start a new year, increasing customer and partner demands have caused Availability to continue to gain momentum. Over the last 12 months, massive distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks brought many services to their knees, interrupting business operations and harming reputations for some of the world’s biggest brands. Moving into 2017, data centers will take center stage and dominate IT, as businesses look to harness information and provide tailored services for customers and partners. Availability will soon become a requirement, and not just “nice to have” for businesses looking to succeed and meet customer demands. Customers will no longer tolerate downtime in the coming year. Bottom line? ... Read more
