Challenge

Backup jobs with SharePoint Online or OneDrive for Business items fail with the following warnings:
Processing OneDrive Username (https://orgname-my.sharepoint.com/personal/user_name) finished with warning:
Failed to backup item: /personal/user_name/Documents/File.zip,
Item may have a virus reported by the virus scanner plug-in.
Processing OneDrive Username (https://orgname-my.sharepoint.com/personal/user_name) finished with warning:
Failed to backup item: /personal/user_name/Documents/File.zip,
The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request

Cause

Items being backed-up might be blocked by the internal SharePoint Online antivirus. For more information, see this Microsoft article.
 

Solution

The file mentioned in the error will not be backed up as it could not be downloaded.

As an isolation step, to check whether items are infected, open OneDrive or the Site that cannot be backed up and try downloading the file(s) manually. If the files you are trying to download are infected, the following will appear:

If instead you are able to manually down the file(s) without seeing the above message about the file being "Compromised," contact Veeam Support for further assistance investigating this situation.
