Challenge

The upgrade to Veeam ONE v13 fails with the following error during step 3 (Upgrading Veeam ONE Server...):

Failed to configure the product. Some configuration actions failed to complete.
Veeam ONE upgrade window with a pop-up error message stating, "Failed to configure the product. Some configuration actions failed to complete." The background shows the upgrade progress at Step 3 of 5: Upgrading Veeam ONE Server.
When this occurs, it results in a partially upgraded Veeam ONE deployment.

Cause

This issue occurs most often due to an incompatibility with a SQL command the installer uses to interact with the VeeamONE database. If the VeeamONE database was created or moved from an older SQL Server version (< 2016) and the compatibility level was not updated, the upgrade will fail.

To avoid this issue, the VeeamONE database must be configured with a compatibility level of at least 130 before starting the upgrade.

Solution

Issue Prevention

If you are reading this article before upgrading to Veeam ONE v13. Please perform the steps in Part 1 to ensure the Veeam ONE database's compatibility level is set appropriately before upgrading.

If you have already attempted to upgrade to Veeam ONE v13 and the issues described have occurred, you must complete all sections below to rectify the situation.

Part 1: Configuring Database Compatibility Level

  1. Connect to the SQL Instance hosting the Veeam ONE database using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.

Note: To locate the Veeam ONE database, open the Veeam ONE Settings Utility to see the database connection settings (make no changes, just check the settings).
  2. Right-click the database in question.
  3. Click Properties.
  4. Click the Options tab.
  5. Click the Compatibility Level dropdown box and change the compatibility level to 130 or later.
  6. Click OK to save the changes.
Database Properties window for "VeeamONE" in SQL Server Management Studio, showing the "Options" page. The "Compatibility level" dropdown is expanded, highlighting SQL Server 2016 (130), 2017 (140), and 2019 (150) as compatible levels equal to or higher than 130.

Part 2: Remove Partial Deployment and Install Veeam ONE v13

  1. Uninstall all remaining parts of the old (pre-upgrade) Veeam ONE deployment.
(Don't delete the Microsoft SQL Instance or the Veeam ONE Database.)
  2. With Veeam ONE now fully uninstalled, install Veeam ONE v13 and specify the existing VeeamONE database.
Note: If the Microsoft SQL Instance is on a remote server, during installation, you may need to select 'Customize Settings'.

All user settings, configurations, collected data, and reports are retained in the database, making this process equivalent to a standard upgrade.

If the installation continues to fail:

  1. Create a compressed archive file of the contents of C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Setup\
  2. Create a Veeam Support case for further assistance, and include the setup logs.

More Information
