Veeam is monitoring risks that may affect cloud infrastructure in the Middle East regions, including the UAE, Qatar, and Israel. Customers using Veeam Data Cloud services in these regions should review their data resilience requirements and consider whether additional geographic separation is needed for their backup data.
This article describes current resiliency considerations and outlines options customers can discuss with their Veeam account team, Customer Success representative, Support team, or Services team.
Veeam has taken steps to improve data resilience for affected services where technically available. This includes the use of Azure zonal storage redundancy options to improve protection against localized infrastructure failures.
These measures improve resilience, but they do not remove all risk. Availability zone redundancy is not the same as geographic redundancy. If multiple availability zones or data centers in a region are affected by a major disruption, customer data or services may be inaccessible for an extended period of time.
Before moving, copying, or recreating backup data in another geography, customers should review their legal, regulatory, contractual, and data sovereignty requirements.
Veeam cannot determine the appropriate region for a customer’s data. Customers should confirm which geographies are acceptable for their organization before requesting changes to backup storage or service location.
Customers using Veeam Data Cloud Vault in the affected Middle East regions are strongly urged to upgrade to the Advanced tier, which provides zonal redundancy for all data.
Advanced licensing provides significantly stronger durability options than Foundation. Customers should work with their Veeam account team to confirm which options are available for their subscription and region.
Customers who need geographic separation should evaluate whether they can establish services in another approved region, such as an available EMEA or APJ region.
This decision should account for the customer’s recovery objectives, business requirements, data residency obligations, and any impact on backup or restore operations.
Veeam cannot move an existing repository to another region; however, customers can take steps to establish tenants or repositories in other regions themselves.
In some cases, the practical path may require stopping backups in the current region or tenant and establishing services in another region. Feasibility, expected downtime, data handling, and operational impact must be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Customers concerned about the Middle East regional resilience should contact their Veeam account team or open a Veeam Support case.
Veeam can help review available approaches based on the customer’s workload, current region, licensing, data residency requirements, and recovery objectives.
