Purpose

The Veeam Analytics Service runs on every Veeam Backup & Replication server connected to Veeam ONE. When Veeam ONE is upgraded, it automatically upgrades the Veeam Analytics Service on each connected server.

On Windows-based Veeam Backup & Replication deployments, this upgrade can install a missing or outdated prerequisite runtime (Microsoft .NET Runtime or Microsoft ASP.NET Core Runtime), which can trigger an unplanned reboot of the server. A restart only occurs when a prerequisite actually has to be installed; a server that already has the required versions is upgraded without any restart. Veeam ONE cannot control or postpone this restart, because the prerequisites are installed by the platform's own installers rather than by Veeam ONE itself.

Note: The Veeam Software Appliance (VSA) is not affected. Its prerequisites are supplied differently and do not require a restart to install.

This article describes how to install the prerequisites on connected Windows-based Veeam Backup & Replication servers in advance, at a time chosen by the administrator, so that the Veeam ONE upgrade does not restart them.

Affected upgrade paths

The Veeam Analytics Service was introduced in Veeam ONE 13, so this behavior applies to upgrades between Veeam ONE 13 releases. It has been identified, on Windows-based Veeam Backup & Replication deployments, for upgrades from any Veeam ONE 13.0 build to Veeam ONE 13.1. For a full list of builds, see KB4357.

Solution

To mitigate the possibility of an unplanned reboot of the Veeam Backup & Replication server, manually install the .NET components on each connected Windows-based Veeam Backup & Replication server before the Veeam ONE server is upgraded.

The current list of Veeam Backup & Replication servers connected to Veeam ONE is available in the Veeam ONE Web Client, under Configuration → Data Collection Overview.

  1. Copy the following  redistributables from the the \Redistr\x64\ folder on the Veeam ONE installation ISO to the connected Veeam Backup & Replication server:
    • aspnetcore-runtime-10.0.10-win-x64.exe
    • dotnet-runtime-10.0.10-win-x64.exe
  2. Run both installers on the Veeam Backup & Replication server, in any order.
  3. Open Apps & features (or Programs and Features) on the Veeam Backup & Replication server and confirm both of the following are listed before proceeding to upgrade Veeam ONE:
    • Microsoft .NET Runtime - 10.0.10 (x64)
    • Microsoft ASP.NET Core Runtime - 10.0.10 (x64)
