VeeamON 2017: Products and features announcement

VeeamON 2017 was the birthplace for many important products and features that will shape Veeam’s strategy for delivering a seamless digital life experience to businesses across the world.

There are many new things coming to Veeam Availability Suite and Veeam Availability Platform, all of them designed to help organizations stay Always-On in multi-cloud environments. As always, Veeam innovated and delivers a complete range of functionalities to fit every data Availability need across virtual, physical or cloud environments.

The following are some of the most important announcements we made at VeeamON 2017.

Veeam Availability Suite v10

Veeam Availability Suite v10 is going to be huge, and it will be updated with several new features, including:

  • Veeam Agent Management – Veeam Agent for Linux and for Microsoft Windows will be integrated in Veeam Backup & Replication v10 and will provide full protection for physical workstations and servers. While Veeam Agent for Linux has been available for half a year, Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows launched at VeeamON.
  • Veeam CDP (Continuous Data Protection) – This is my personal favorite feature of v10 — it will allow you to protect and recover Tier-1 and mission-critical applications by achieving RPOs (Recovery Point Objectives) of seconds. Veeam CDP leverages VMware’s VAIO framework to intercept and push I/O streams to VMs and then replicate data without creating VMware snapshots.
  • Scale-Out Backup Repository Archive Tier – The new Archive Tier helps you lower costs and save primary backup repository space by enabling the archiving of backups to any storage or media, such as Amazon S3, Microsoft Azure or Amazon Glacier, as well as to tape. This capability provides storage-agnostic support and is designed to free up the primary repository by moving the oldest backup files from primary backup storage to cheaper storage designed for data archiving.

Plus, much more, including NAS backup support, as well as the introduction of primary storage integrations with IBM Spectrum Virtualize, Lenovo Storage V Series, and INFINIDAT.

Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows

Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows 2.0 was made generally available at VeeamON 2017 and is now available for download on our website. The successor of Veeam Endpoint Backup comes in two editions – Server and Workstation, and is designed to protect non-virtualized systems that Veeam Backup & Replication couldn’t protect: Desktops, laptops, Windows-based physical servers or Windows workloads running in the public cloud. The integration with Veeam Backup & Replication includes automated agent deployment and job management, as well as the ability to move physical backups off site to a cloud provider using Veeam Cloud Connect. You can find more information about Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows here.

Veeam Availability Console

VeeamON 2017 marked a milestone in the development of Veeam Availability Console, with general availability slated for Q3.  Veeam Availability Console — the next evolution of Veeam Managed Backup Portal — is a cloud-enabled platform primarily for Veeam Cloud & Service Providers (VCSPs), and also for distributed hybrid cloud enterprise environments that operate like service providers.

Veeam Availability Console delivers everything a service provider or distributed enterprise needs to deploy, manage and monitor Veeam-powered Availability services — no matter where the protected workloads are hosted and without the need for a VPN connection. Veeam Availability Console can be deployed in either private, public or hybrid cloud infrastructures, or as an instance within the public cloud — making it perfect for Veeam properties looking to generate new revenue streams by offering managed services alongside their traditional resale business lines.

Veeam Availability for AWS

Another major feature announcement made during VeeamON was the new Veeam Availability for AWS, the industry’s first cloud-native, agentless backup and Availability solution to protect AWS apps and data. This solution is designed to protect and recover AWS applications and data and help enterprises move to and manage a multi-cloud environment. Veeam Disaster Recovery in Microsoft Azure

Finally, another new feature we introduced combines existing functionality in Veeam Backup & Replication with a new, free networking appliance to deliver business continuity for ANY sized business during a disaster. Veeam Disaster Recovery in Microsoft Azure, announced during Thursday’s cloud session, is designed to help any business better maintain business continuity and Availability for their most critical workloads with the next generation of “on-demand DR” in the cloud. It delivers cloud restore for Veeam backups to optimize resource allocation and gain new DR options, coupled with a newly released, easy to use, light-weight software-defined networking solution (Veeam PN for Microsoft Azure) to simplify setup and connectivity in minutes, regardless of location.

At VeeamON 2017, we introduced many new technologies and features (many of them requested by our customers) — the result of Veeam’s tireless innovation efforts. Veeam Availability Suite v10 is taking business continuity and agility to new levels and it will be a solid solution that will extend the data protection sphere to any workload: virtual, physical or cloud.
