Purpose

This article documents the paths available to upgrade Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 to the most recent version.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

If Veeam Backup & Replication is installed on the same server as Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365, upgrade Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 before upgrading Veeam Backup & Replication.

Shared Server Compatibility of Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 and Veeam Backup & Replication

Consider the following when planning for upgrade:

All backup jobs are stopped during the upgrade process.
After the upgrade, backup jobs settings and global configuration options (e.g., notifications and file exclusions) will be preserved.
Additional considerations are listed in the product User Guide.
After the upgrade, Repositories, Jobs, and Proxy Servers will be marked as Out of Date and require manual interaction to upgrade.
Veeam Explorers must be upgraded along with Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365.

Upgrade Paths

End of Support Upgrade Path

There is no supported upgrade path for products that have reached End of Support.

A new Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 server must be created using the latest version.

Version 5.x

5.x -> 7.0.0.2911

Upgrade to Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 7 (7.0.0.2911)
Open the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 Console and upgrade existing backup repositories, backup jobs, and remote proxy servers.

Version 6.x

6.x -> 7.0.0.2911

Upgrade to Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 7 (7.0.0.2911)
Open the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 Console and upgrade existing backup repositories, backup jobs, and remote proxy servers.
