More information about Archive Tier can be found in the Userguide:
The table below documents the actual EC2 Instance Type / Azure VM Size that Veeam Backup & Replication will use based on the Proxy Appliance setting that was configured at the Proxy Appliance step of the Adding Amazon S3 Glacier or Adding Azure Archive Storage wizard.
Proxy Appliance Setting | EC2 Instance Type | Azure VM Size |
Cost-Effective | m5a.large | Standard_D2 |
Optimal (recommended) | m5.xlarge | Standard_F4 |
Extreme | c5.4xlarge | Standard_F8 |
If limitations on EC2 Instance Type or Azure VM Size are in place that prevent Veeam Backup & Replication from creating the Proxy Appliance, the Archive Job will fail.
For example, if the Azure VM size that Veeam Backup & Replication attempts to create is not allowed, the following error will occur:
Failed to create Microsoft Azure VM: Resource was disallowed by policy. Reasons: 'This is not an allowed Size, only approved sizes are A0, Av2, B, Dv4, Dsv4, Dv5, Dsv5, Fsv2'.
