Challenge

Possible data loss in backups created.

Affected product versions:

  • Veeam Backup for AWS 5.0.0.452
  • Veeam Backup for AWS 5.1.0.39
  • Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure 4.0.0.679
  • Veeam Backup for Google Cloud 3.0.0.859

Cause

While creating backups to object storage, data loss may occur within the restore points of a backup chain. This can happen in the background due to the movement of backup objects.

To understand if any backup chains are affected, policies that have Health Check enabled will put the restore point in an Incomplete state, which can be seen via the Restore Point popup.

Example
For policies that have Health Check disabled, it is advised to install the hotfix, enable Health Check, and perform a policy run afterward.

Solution

Veeam has released a hotfix which is available via the Updater component. It is advised to install this update immediately.

After the installation of the hotfix, the build number will be:

  • Veeam Backup for AWS 5.1.1.8
  • Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure 4.0.0.714
  • Veeam Backup for Google Cloud 3.0.0.868

Update Procedure

  1. Navigate to the Configuration page
  2. Navigate to the Support Information page
  3. Select “Check and view updates”
  4. Within the Updater, select the “Veeam update” package in the list
  5. Within the action pane, select “Install Updates Now

Install Updates Now
  1. Once installed, it is required to enable Health Check within all backup-enabled policies.
