How to configure antivirus exclusions to prevent interaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

Purpose

This article documents antivirus exclusions that have been found to help prevent antivirus software from interrupting Veeam Backup & Replication communications with components such as proxies and repositories or with the guest OS of VMs that are being backed up or replicated.

Solution

Due to the complex nature of antivirus software, some additional exclusions may be needed. Users are advised to review their antivirus logging or history to determine if additional objects need to be excluded.

Antivirus Exclusions:

Folders on the Veeam Backup & Replication Server:

  • C:\Program Files\Veeam\
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Veeam\
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Veeam\
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Veeam\
  • VBRCatalog Path

    This path can be found in the registry under the value named CatalogPath in the key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup Catalog\
  • NFS Path

    This path can be found in the registry under the value named RootFolder in the key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Veeam\Veeam NFS\
  • C:\VeeamFLR\
  • C:\Windows\Veeam\
  • %programdata%\Veeam\
  • C:\Windows\TEMP\*\veeamflr-*.flat

Folders is Guest OS of Machines protected:

Folders on VMware Backup Proxies, Gateway Servers, and Hyper-V Hosts:
